April 9, 2010 we held the Sixth Annual Steven Harvey Memorial Baseball Scholarship bbq fundraiser dinner. We are so very blessed to have so many family members and friends who help us keep this benefit going each and every year. Without the help of these people and our community here in Olney, this scholarship would not be nearly as successful as it is today.
For those of you who don't know, Steven is our middle son, who will forever be 20 years old. He was killed in a car wreck on May 7, 2004 coming home from Muleshoe for Mother's Day weekend. We decided to honor his memory by offering a scholarship to graduating senior Olney baseball players. We have been so lucky to be able to continue this scholarship for the sixth year because of the generosity and support of our friends, family, and the great people who live in Olney and the surrounding areas. Baseball was one of Steven's many joys in life and something he excelled at. We have many wonderful and humorous memories of Steven and his buddies and their "exploits."
Here are just a few pictures taken by Dad and myself of the people who helped, and who enjoyed a very good meal.
Not a bad price for such great food! Dad, Joey, and Joe ready to serve.
We were missing some key players in the mix. Jami and her boys couldn't be here because of baseball and school. Jason was in the middle of tax season (bless you!) Wally and his family couldn't be here because of work. Leslye had to teach Pre-K (God love her!). But we know that they were all with us in spirit, and for that we are thankful!
Granny came with Mom and Dad, but she decided that she'd just stay home and spend her time with Jeffrey, trying to teach him how to crawl. I actually think she had more fun than any of us!
He didn't learn to crawl, but they had a good time anyway.

Justin decided that he needed to grill some "appetizers" while we were serving dinner to everyone else. Stuffed jalapenoes, taco sausage in tortillas, etc. Must have been good because by the time I got ready to eat one they were all gone!
All in all, we were able to raise over $6,000 for the scholarship fund and we are so blessed and humbled by the generosity of those we know and love. Being able to help these great young men is what this is all about, and being able to do it in Steven's honor makes the tragedy of the past a little easier to bare. As I've heard many times in my life, God has a plan for all of us, even if it comes out of something tragic and ends up being something for the better. We will always have our memories, and now we are able to share a little bit of those memories with others, by supporting the young men we have come to love and admire.
